A project by artist Gisele Camargo, from Rio de Janeiro, occupies the Solo project of Central
Galeria, showcasing her new production of collages and paintings produced between 2016
and 2017. The artist is experiencing a unique moment in her work, connecting several phases
of her trajectory.
Known for her modulated paintings of architectural landscapes and spaces, Gisele explores
straight lines, geometric cutouts, plains, and perspectives. In 2015, she started focusing on
collages and produced the series A construção dos minimundos [The Construction of Mini Worlds],
executed by juxtaposing photographs she took, thus proposing a new universe based on these
places she interacts with.
The series Brutos [Brutes] stems from collages and explores the same pictorial language
of the mini worlds. These paintings mark a new moment in the artist’s production in 2016,
more closely linked to abstraction and described by the artist as “figurations made of spaces”.
This subtle division between figuration and abstraction, which was already perceived in
her work, takes on a new body. Her latest paintings, produced in 2017, comprise all these phases
and depict the processes and characteristics that permeate her oeuvre.
