Art On Paper the Brussels Drawing Fair / 25 artists solo shows in collaboration with BOZAR
With a view to demonstrating its particular fondness for the medium, Brussels has now given it
its own exhibition, the undertaking of which largely exceeds the traditional
format of the show thanks to the involvement of Art on Paper in conjunction with BOZAR.
One gallery; one artist. A key concept that affords the piece the privilege of filling the space attributed to it, helping to plunge the visitor into an idiosyncratic world. As was the case last year, the 25 stands, designed in the style of immaculate boxes, will run along the length of the ‘Terarken’ rooms (located in the basement of the Palais). The selection was made by the Artistic Director and supported by a committee and is one that will reinforce the hardy, demanding approach adopted for the show. Also of particular note is the international dimension of the approaches selected this year, thanks to the galleries in both Europe and the United States, which showcase the artists that are visiting us from far and wide! In joining forces with a major cultural institution and in defending plans for it to host a stringently selected series of solo shows, Art on Paper has successfully forged its own identity. Limiting itself to 25 exhibitors, for example, it boasts a strong positioning that demonstrates a desire to host an almost personal, intimate and friendly event, on the one hand, and to alternate the exhibiting galleries from one edition to the next, on the other. Art on Paper also seeks to spark interest on the parts of amateurs, professionals, collectors and the simply curious, to constantly surprise through a variety of artistic practices, to provide artists with a platform of expression and galleries with a platform of visibility and to help promote Brussels as a European centre of contemporary art.
