Marcus Beilby is a leading Australian realist painter based in Western Australia. He first came to prominence on the east coast in the early 1980s with his exhibition High Street Studio Realists which toured the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Robert Lindsay selected his large work A Coming Attraction for the major exhibition Australian Art 1960-1986: Field to Figuration - Works from the National Gallery of Victoria. In 1987 he won the Sulman Prize and was commissioned to paint the commemorative portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for the opening of Parliament House in Canberra.
He lived and exhibited in the U.S. for a time before returning to Australia with a passion to capture the colours, light, and unique social experiences of the national lifestyle.
Earlier this year Beilby held a successful solo show at the Fremantle Arts Centre titled Sightings.
This is his first exhibition in Melbourne and includes a selection of paintings from 2004-2017.
