We are honored to announce, solo exhibition by Jun Tsunoda “dust to dust”.
Born in Aichi, Japan in 1960, Tsunoda has been working and is a renown creator in the graphic design field from the late 1980’s. His works range from various magazines and advertisements to the art direction of a clothing brand “Poetry of Sex”.
Aside from his activities as an art director, Tsunoda has been painting and drawing ever since his childhood. With deep inspirations from a Cy Twombly art book he encountered as a student, the lines drawn by Tsunoda have always been swimming through a pond full of colors. From production era to what interested him at a certain time, Tsunoda has painted in various styles but within a similar world of colors, and with lines full of freedom. When the colors and lines crossover one another, it give birth to what the artist is known for, a distinct and extremely poetic style. As seen in his presentation at the group show “The Unseen Relationship: Form and Abstraction” held at the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art in Chiba pref. Japan, the image seen through Tsunoda’s works wander along the borders of figurative and abstract, portraying a vague but comfortable and poetic atmosphere.
In his most recent series plant like strokes and lines can be seen vertically growing, along with transfer sheets used in specific areas, giving us a fresh and new feeling to Tsunoda’s works. Along with the poetic comfort which has been felt throughout his paintings, a new “foreign matter” appears in the vague world of colors. Thus the new body of works which will be shown, portrays the coexisting contradiction of our daily life, such as beauty and the disfiguring, praise and fear, utopia and dystopia.
