August 5th, 2016 - Miami, FL - Conde Contemporary, a gallery which specializes in emerging and mid career artists, with a focus on contemporary Cuban art, presents, "Magical Tranquility" opening on Friday, September 2nd from 7-10 pm, at 204 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. Anthony Ardavin and Aurora Molina present new works reflecting the quiet solitude of youth, and the solace found in reminiscence.
Quietude. Sweet reprieve. From the age old malady.
Marionettes. Crescent moons. Winding gardens.
Shielded in childhood fantasy.
Safe in the world of illusion.
“I am a narrative artist, I paint about what I know, my painting is primarily biographical. These are stories from my native country, or experiences that I have had through my journey. In my work, cultures overlap, coexist, and intermingle. I paint the past and the present, the contemporary and the primitive.” - A. Ardavin
Anthony Ardavin was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1950. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, with a Bachelor in Arts. Ardavin's work can be found in the permanent collections of The Knoxville Museum of Art in Tennessee, the Michael C. Carlos Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as in multiple corporate collections. His work has been shown across the US and in Mexico. The artist currently lives and works in Miami.
"There’s an undeniably playful aspect to all of my work. The use of fabric and the obsessiveness of embroidery defines my work and honors that centuries-old legacy of women weavers and artisans. The embroidery machine facilitates a delicate and yet frenetic pace. Every time I sew, I connect the tension of my foot on the pedal to the movement of my hands as I guide the fabric’s surface into what I want to draw." - A. Molina
Aurora Molina was born in La Havana, Cuba, in 1984. She emigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen, where she opted to pursue an education in art. Molina received her Associates of Arts in Visual Arts from Miami Dade College, a Bachelors in Fine Arts specializing in Mixed Media from Florida International University and Master Degree in Contemporary Art at the Universidad Europea de Madrid completed in 2009. She currently resides in Miami, Florida, where she works as a full time artist.
