Cordesa Fine Art is pleased to present, Lost Thoughts and Days Ahead, a solo exhibition featuring San Francisco based artist, Emilio Villalba. On display will be a selection of oil paintings that explore the notion of the contemporary human condition. Lost Thoughts and Days Ahead will be on view from January 14th - February 4th, 2017 with a reception for the artist, January 14th from 6:30pm - 8pm. Villalba will be in attendance.
Inspired by master works, the paintings in Lost Thoughts and Days Ahead, represent different mental states that are created in response due to the everyday pressure and expectations that are inflicted on individuals from society. Villalba asks his subjects to sit with a neutral expression to minimize their influence on the outcome of the painting as he investigates and touches upon different emotions while rendering his subject in a conceptual manner.
Employing different techniques such as; implementing subtle shifts of color, repetition, additive and subtractive strokes, Villalba creates a modern approach to abstract portraiture. Not relying on the familiar and literal representations of the human face, Villalba adds and deducts facial features to create emotion. Villalba invites the viewer into his paintings with the abstraction of reality and also by allowing the viewers to empathize with emotion in a safe environment.
Emilio Villalba is a native of Southern California and received his BFA from the Art Institute of California in 2006, and his MFA in Painting from the Academy of Art University in 2011. He currently lives in San Francisco where he teaches at the Art Institute of California. His works are in several private collections in the United States and in the United Kingdom and Australia.
