‘Salon Tactile’ is the programmatic title of Erika Hock’s solo exhibition at COSAR HMT on the occasion of this year’s DC OPEN. The exhibition opens on the 6th September and will be on view until the 27th October 2018.
‘Salon Tactile’ is a complex installation comprised of wall works and freestanding objects that sensuously combine both visual and tactile experiences. For the exhibition, Hock has had roughly 100m of string curtain printed all at once according to her specifications, which she then used as the material starting point for these works. She combines various printed excerpts and samples motifs in layers, thus creating multilayered image-objects in the most literal sense. The material’s fine, textile threads lend the whole installation a flowing, almost liquid quality, which challenges the viewer not only visually, but also haptically. Translucent light fixtures hang from the ceiling, further enhancing the animated atmosphere with subtle color gradients. Erika Hock, born 1981, lives and works in Cologne. In 2018, Hock’s installations were on view in ‘Eruption from the Surface’ at MARTa Herford. She will present a solo show at the Kunsthalle Lingen under the title ‘Hotel Atlantic’ from 14.09 –11.11.2018. She has also participated in the exhibition ‘Bauhaus ⁄ Ideal Standard’, which she co-curated at the Zeppelinmuseum Friedrichshafen together with Dominik Busch.
