Create Hub Gallery’s new exhibition space is the first in the region dedicated to Contemporary African Art
Create Hub Gallery – the Dubai-based international artist representative, art consultant and exhibition organiser dedicated to the promotion of Contemporary African artists – has opened its own art gallery in Al Quoz 3. The new venue – hosting its official soft opening on 7 June 2017 from 7pm, and inviting all art lovers to attend – will be the first art gallery in the region to focus on the promotion of contemporary African artists.
Lidija Kostic Khachatourian, Create Hub Gallery’s managing partner, says of the opening: “We are thrilled that our gallery is the first independent, dedicated space in the Middle East to showcase the incredible work of emerging and established African artists. While some African artists have ‘made it’ on to the international art scene – being curated and exhibited in museums, galleries and auction houses in New York, London and Paris – there are hundreds of incredibly talented painters, sculptors, and conceptual African artists that are just waiting to be discovered. This is where Create Hub Gallery comes in, bringing fresh, exciting and well-priced art work to Middle Eastern collectors and art enthusiasts, for the first time.”
Speaking about the start of her foray in to African art, Lidija says, “it was during a trip to Mozambique – while visiting an inspiring local art gallery and art centre at which dozens of young artists were creating their pieces – that I decided to explore the contemporary art scene a little more. I travelled, together with my family, to several African countries and found a kaleidoscope of incredible art on the continent – from enormous, vivid collages, to ethereal paintings, and more – all of which were a far cry from the touristy pieces that people usually associate with the words ‘African art’. I knew that people around the world needed to see these works, which is when I started importing Contemporary African Art into the UAE. Today, the continent’s fine art schools and universities are churning out hugely talented artists and designers year after year. Create Hub Gallery will represent a cross section of that talent, from the more well-known African Artists, to the more undiscovered – and therefore more affordable – artists.”
You’ll find ‘Create Hub Gallery’ on Google Maps, in Warehouse #4 on 6th Street (near Al Waha Street) in Al Quoz 3. The gallery is open to the public every Saturday from 10am to 5pm, with viewings outside of these times being by appointment only.
