For this years edition of Material Art Fair, Damien & The Love Guru are presenting a booth setup containing new and existing works by nine artists the gallery has collaborated with in the past. The artists we invited are Christiane Blattmann, Michael Debatty, Kristien Daem, Vanessa Disler, Hadrien du Roy, Béla Pablo Janssen, Tom Król, Sharon Van Overmeiren, and Nils Alix -Tabeling.
'The necessity to explore in endless ways' is the focal existence of Damien & The Love Guru and gives importance to past and present collaborations regarding all our exhibition projects. The artists we selected will reflect and/or produce new works or exhibit older works in relation to the concept of a passage out of ‘The Awakening of Intelligence' a book written by J. Krishnamurti, an Indian philosopher, speaker and writer. His subject matter included psychological revolution, the nature of mind, meditation, inquiry, human relationships, and bringing about radical change in society.
In this book, Krishnamurti approaches questions fundamental to life: conflict, pleasure, fear, violence, religious experience, self-knowledge and intelligence. Central to his discussions is the relationship between intelligence and thought, with emphasis on reaching clear definitions of these concepts. He has dialogues with three individuals about the role of the teacher, the effects of tradition on belief, the need for awareness of a ‘cosmic dimension’, the problem of good and evil. This illustrates the origin or lineage of the name ‘The Love Guru’ and ‘Damien’ or ‘The Omen 666’, the fragmentation of consciousness, and the possibility of psychological revolution.
