Brooklyn-based artis Liz Nielsen and Boulder-based artist Dylan Gebbia-Richards provide two unique interpretations of landscape, disparate in medium but equal in their pursuit of transcendence for artist and audience.
David B. Smith Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition featuring the work of Liz Nielsen and Dylan Gebbia-Richards. This is the gallery’s second twoperson exhibition featuring Dylan Gebbia-Richards and the first with Liz Nielsen. This exhibition provides two unique interpretations of landscape, disparate in medium but equal in their pursuit of transcendence for artist and audience. Nielsen and Gebbia-Richards achieve something exotic, yet familar and in defiance of scale they depict infinite worlds—simultaneously macro and micro. These works evoke a geometry, allowing the viewer to move within the ebb and flow of Gebbia-Richards’ crystalline wax structures and sink into the saturated hues of Nielsen’s abstracted mountains. Intensely process-driven, Nielsen’s photograms and Gebbia-Richards’ paintings are experimental and wholly their own. Per Nielsen, these works “are about transcendence and shifting one’s way of seeing through abstraction.”
