SENSITIVE EYE - duo show ARNAUD LIARD / L'OUTSIDER

Initiated in 2014 and as a nod to the exhibition "Responsive eye" curated at the MOMA in 1965, the "Sensitive Eye" program is a serie of personal exhibitions with a focus on David Bloch Gallery' s key themes, ranging from optical art to geometric abstraction and playing on our visual perception.
By the end of this year 2018, this series is renewed in the form of duo show with two exhibitions. Those encounters between the Artworks of two artists are an opportunity for them to approach or disrupt their artistic process in the context of a visual dialogue.

OCTOBER 19 - NOVEMBER 17 : SENSITIVE EYE Cycle - Duo Show Arnaud Liard / OUTSIDER

Coming from the Parisian graffiti scene, Arnaud Liard is a multiple artist, mixing several areas of creation to obtain a surprising result. In a universe that is his own, he defies the boundaries between artistic disciplines and offers a work as personal as universal.

After obtaining a diploma as a letter painter, he devoted himself, from the end of the 80s, to the creation of mural paintings, in a graphic approach oriented towards the letter. In 2001, he founded the collective TRBDSGN (Turbo Design) with graffiti artists Hobz and Onde. Conceived as a plastic and graphic research laboratory, the studio TRBDSGN explores the worlds of design, graphics, and more particularly for Arnaud Liard, painting on canvas.

His various researches lead him little by little to new textures and more figurative subjects, with always, the desire to integrate this so-called “street” aesthetic where he comes from. With the will of finding the wall appearances that he continues to shape here and there, he coated his canvas with cement before applying his pictorial work. Arnaud Liard’s works evoke his interest in architecture, the city and his subjects that he photographes since his adolescence. Images that serve as a frame for a thousand and one stories when, in his studio in Paris, the artist turns into a director, mixing and remixing his stolen subjects in reconstructed urban landscapes. Eternal explorer, Arnaud Liard starts from figurative to abstraction following his inspirations, each time taking a new look on his closed environment, at the same time subject, muse and model.

L’Outsider was born in 1984. He lives and works in Brittany.

Yann Le Berre, alias L’Outsider, is initiated at the age of 17 to graffiti codes and techniques – he is fascinated by the freedom and energy of this practice that invests the urban space. His studies at a school named “Ecole Boulle” brought him to Paris in 2006.

Although suffering from acute dyslexia, he has constantly worked with letters and words. Gradually, he develops a characteristic style shaped by architecture, graphic design, contemporary art and expanded by the diversity of cultures that inspire him. His relationship to graffiti evolves little by little and detaches from the letter thus revealing a daring transition to abstraction and constructivism.

Very graphic artworks, often colorful, that hit the eye or pose an enigma, and which gradually intrude into the world of galleries. Resulting exhibitions in Paris, Zurich and other European cities. Nevertheless, he still adheres to the experimentation in public spaces, which relies mainly on the spontaneous action, the intuition and the specificity of the site.
