New York-based Denny Dimin Gallery is pleased to announce its expansion to Asia with the opening of DDHK, a new gallery located in Hong Kong. DDHK’s inaugural exhibition, which begins March 28, will feature new work by artists Erin O’Keefe and Matt Mignanelli.
Housed in an apartment inside a residential building in the Mid-Levels neighborhood, DDHK aims to share its artists with an expanded audience and present their work in a unique context that transcends the traditional white cube format. DDHK, one of the first apartment-style galleries to debut in Hong Kong, seeks to use the domestic nature of its exhibition space to host ambitious, intimate, and site-specific installations that provide in-depth engagements for the city’s artistic community and new collectors. Curated by Katie Alice Fitz Gerald, a founding partner of Denny Dimin Gallery, DDHK will stage regular programming and aspires to feature both its international artists and new material. Three exhibitions are planned for 2019.
The inaugural exhibition will include brand new works by Erin O’Keefe from her current series, Built Work. O’Keefe’s work operates in the space between photography, painting, and sculpture. She constructs sculptural arrangements comprised of painted cardboard, plexiglass, or wood staged on a studio tabletop, then photographs them in moments of spatial ambiguity, capturing the contradictions that result from the camera’s intrinsic distortions. Her work, rooted in a formal language of making that she developed as an architect, examines the nature of spatial perception.
The exhibition will include 6 brand new works by Matt Mignanelli, from his Blue Paintings series. Matt Mignanelli is best known for his intricate paintings of grids inspired by light, shadow, and the architectural elements present in the urban landscape. Mignanelli explores permutations of these geometric forms, while also recording the element of chance through his freehand process, which allows drips of paint to splash on the canvas as he works.
Please join us for a Press Opening on Thursday, 28 March from 10am-12pm. You are also invited to join us for an opening drinks reception on Friday, 29 March from 7pm-9pm. (Please RSVP to Katie Alice for the address.)
DDHK will be open by appointment only. For further information or to arrange a viewing, please contact Katie Alice at +852 5721 2638 or by email at [email protected].
