Jonathan Matthews is an American Painter, born April 18, 1979. Jonathan grew up across the East Coast and Midwest and was first seen in the public eye when he appeared as an influential artist in the Northern U.S. in the late ‘90’s. While studying and exhibiting in Italy in the early 2000’s he found inspiration to expand a portfolio that clearly speaks of a prolific artist. The impact of living with epilepsy coupled with his imagination and character makes him a unique figure in the art world. His oil paintings extend to lengths of up to eight feet and more, and explores issues spanning from love and war, to personal conflict and abstraction. His experimentation with color and drive to create has established a body of work that continues to tell a dynamic story of his growth as an artist. For the past 10 years Jonathan has been involved with major exhibitions at the Lever House, Gagosian Gallery, and countless other institutions with major artists and curators in New York. His motivation to make his mark will certainly provide for an exciting future. JoMa lives and makes art in New York City.
