DiabloRosso is pleased to present "Bottom Line", a solo exhibition by Ana Elena Garuz (Panama, 1971).
Bottom Line refers to the final result; the conclusion; the main result of a process; its fundamental aspects. It is about getting to the point; to the essence, and to focus on the indispensable.
Ana Elena's interest lies in exploring the aesthetic and poetic possibilities of the line with the use of simple everyday materials, in order to find a new relationship with space. Her work focuses on the form and the properties of the materials. On the other hand, she uses the grid to find an order in the chaos that surrounds us.
Rosalind Krauss suggested that the grid, in painting — from Mondrian to Sol Lewitt — announced the will to silence art and its hostility to narration and discourse. Garuz's work does not speak of literal stories, nor realistic descriptions. What interests her is how each person interprets it, according to their own experience.
Ana Elena Garuz lives and works in Panama City, Panama.
