ACETO's unique wall works titled JUSTE UN CLOU BLEU and JUSTE UN CLOU ROSE magnify the precious qualities of everyday objects in a sublime take on the ordinary. Cartier`s Juste un Clou series was created in New York during the carefree, fun loving 1970s. Outrageous appropriations of the nail, have always been avant garde, audacious and thoroughly moderns. These sculptures, mostly figurative, occupy the space as monuments that pay homage to nothing and question their own status.
Aceto's forthcoming solo show with the gallery in Berlin is tilted AZURE and opens on 23 NOV, 2018.
GREINER presents a series of photographs from his series EIGHT HEADS HIGH and HYBRID MATTER which reflect on how humans manipulate and redesign nature through genetic engineering, speculating on the future of mankind’s own genetic code. These sophisticatedly composed images examine the concept of identity and the methods of visualization conveyed in this classical genre of portrait photography. The work is an investigation into new ways of interpreting portraiture inter-medialy. Various techniques are used, electron microscope photography, CT scans and DNA analysis, 3D scanning and printing are all equal representations of identity.
MARTINI's installation includes several large vertical aluminium pipes that are filled with four to five liters of liquid shellac, an organic material usually used to cover the exterior of things, to seal or protect them. But here, the traditional commercial or industrial function of the material is halted, encased inside pipes with no air, so it can never harden. Placed on the floor, a set of epoxy resin spheres function similarly, encasing Judea bitumen and red clay, which, like the shellac, is unable to harden or solidify. Instead it rests, in a conceptual state of purgatory.
Martini's exhibition MOLTEN premiered during BERLIN ART WEEK and is currently on view at the gallery through 17 NOV, 2018.
