Connie Hayes will give an artist talk and slide show called “What is Ambition Related to a Painting Life?” She will discuss how her ambitions have changed over time, showing examples of her work and other artists to explore how ambition can enhance or impair the creative process.
Connie Hayes is a plein air and studio painter living in Rockland, Maine. Born in Gardiner, Maine she taught at the Maine College of Art for 10 years, also participating in arts administration there for 15 years, including serving as their interim Dean of Faculty. In 2003 she was awarded an honorary doctorate in fine arts from the Maine College of Art. From 1992-1998 she lived in New York City. Since 1990 she has been painting on location through her Borrowed Views project and in her studio on figure work and still life paintings. For the past two summers, Connie Hayes has taught courses in Civita Castellana at the JSS Summer Program. This exhibit is the culmination of that work. The exhibition will include paintings and drawings of Italy.
