For just a few years now, Krefeld artist Herbert Zangs (1924–2003) has been recognized as the outstanding protagonist and pioneer of West German post-war art (Informel, ZERO, arte povera), which he undoubtedly is. As a radical artist, his persona was seen as controversial – but his work is testimony of his unbridled creativity.

Back and forward: To a new beginning, after the destruction of World War 2. To counter-images (Beuys), off the concrete form. To a new appreciation of material, of waste, of the secular under the ordering and judicial hand of the visionary. The exhibition shows works from different working periods.
