"Double Take" is the ongoing exploration of iconic images from history created by Jojakim Cortis & Adrian Sonderegger. Begun in 2012 the series is a sophisticated play between photographic truth and manipulation raising questions about history, authenticity and document.
East Wing presents an Artsy Online exclusive exhibition of "Double Take" by Jojakim Cortis & Adrian Sonderegger in celebration of their current exhibition on now at C/O Berlin in Germany.
Cortis & Sonderegger began collaborating on this project in their Zurich studio in 2012. Together they dissect historical moments embedded in the public consciousness by using analogue tools (paint, glue, cotton wool, etc). Their hand made forgeries raise questions about the temporal nature of experience and memory.
The artists create these laboriously crafted 3D models, paying close attention to the lighting and vantage point of the camera in the originals, in an attempt to literally ‘re-make’ events ranging from the crash of the Hindenburg and the supersonic passenger jet Concorde, to the last photograph of the Titanic and the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima.
