İnci Ertuğ | STRATUM
5-30 March 2019
EKAV / Education, Culture and Research Foundation will host İnci Ertuğ’s 15th personal exhibition STRATUM at Ekavart Gallery between March 5 and 30, 2019, displaying works she recently produced by using mixed techniques and various materials.
In STRATUM, canvases coded by layers of color, tissue and design constitute the painting language of the artist who explores layers of time, space and memory.
When the memory of evolution is shared, there is a moment of transcending metaphors; and at that moment layers of inner vision -STRATA- transpire. Conscientiously approaching each one of these layers, called STRATUM in Latin, Ertuğ narrates in her canvas life’s inner accumulations and ‘short history of time” filtered through evolution of humans learning to transform matter.
İnci Ertuğ constitutes her message in the strongest form by setting up her works with references alluding to the age and then relating them to layers of meaning of materials. Images belonging to collective memory dance under a harmony of very different materials. Surfaces rising like waves hitting a lighthouse, folding over one another, layers left on the beach after a storm and breathing as though they are separate worlds. A story in every floor, an escapade in every level.
