1 – 19 March 2016
EKAV / Education, Culture and Research Foundation welcomes the paintings of Seyyit Bozdoğan in the exhibition titled “Associations” at Ekavart Gallery on 1 – 19 March 2016.
In the timeframe of our lives, we perceive the material world with our senses and our souls. These perceptions leave traces, as memories, in our minds. Sometimes, when we experience new situations, resembling those in our memory, “associations” happen, enabling new connections. These associations could surface in relation to the perception of the material world or reality, or the invisible facet of reality; the latter we can perceive through our knowledge. An example to this could be the fact that although the stars (in the sky) look like little twinkles, from our world, we can try to perceive the reality that they are many times bigger than our world through our knowledge of them.
Forms and colors create different perceptions and connotations in different cultures. Perception and connotations of a single situation can vary from person to person, as it can during different time spans of the same person.
Associations generally happen when we are experiencing similar or opposite situations to those in or memory; and they actively stimulate visual and intellectual connotations. Theories of art, materials we use, our experiments with new techniques, all can act to arouse connotations, which in turn provoke creative impulses.
While experiencing situations, similar to those the artist’s been through before, he consciously tries to use all sort of old or new memories of technical or spiritual nature, which associatively arise to his mind. He tries to convert these into artistic forms and expressions and with these, he aims to arouse new perceptions and associations in the viewer. Here, the new connotations that all the colors and forms conjure up, and the artistic fantasies that they associate, help the new painting take shape.
