Elipsis Projects is pleased to participate in AIPAD with a solo project by the renowned Turkish artist Ahmet Ertug. The works on show will include new works by the artist from his recent body of work from various cultural interiors in Italy.
Ahmet Ertug photographs architectural cultural heritage sites with extreme precision and structural detail in his signature style. He documents cultural architecture from different periods and of various social demands meticulously, producing records of time. His large-scale colour images of interiors showcase the historical layers of the human experience, a gateway between the present and the past.
The architectural space takes centre stage in his images, as the artist captures the overwhelming structure and powerful domination of these remarkable buildings. His subjects are spaces void of people in which passion, experiences are evoked with only traces of people.
Ahmet Ertug (1949) lives and works in Istanbul, Turkey. He studied architecture at the Architectural Association in London, graduating in 1974. From 1980 onwards, Ertug focused on photographing historical monuments and cultural heritage sites using a large format camera. He has worked extensively in palaces, churches, mosques and defining historic architectural sites from the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires, as well as Archeology of ancient cities, European theatres, opera houses, and libraries. His works have travelled globally and have been exhibited at various museums and institutions including The Penn Museum (Pensylvania), Kunst Historiches Museum (Vienna), Bibliotheque Nationale de France (Paris), Musee Guimet (Paris), Istanbul Modern Museum (Istanbul), Elipsis Gallery (Istanbul), Polka Gallery (Paris), Riff Projects (Istanbul), Arkas Art Center (Izmir), World Monuments Fund Gallery, New York.
