Elisabetta Cipriani – Jewellery by Contemporary Artists invites internationally acclaimed sculptors and painters to design jewelry as unique wearable sculptures.
At Design Miami/Basel 2015, the gallery is delighted to present an extraordinary monograph of the Italian artist Giorgio Vigna as well as a selection of projects recently created in collaboration with the gallery.
Giorgio Vigna’s artistic pathway is a journey out of the ordinary expressed by the strong link between his broad artistic research and nature, and the relationship that connects form and matter.
In the jewelry, as much as in his artistic production, Vigna shows his versatility. For Design Miami/Basel 2015 the artist presents 30 unique pieces expressing the diverse disciplines he works with: the virtues of glass, the jewelry as sculpture, and the soul of the precious.
A section of the show is dedicated to Sospeso (Suspended), his first jewelry project – rings and pendants - created in collaboration with Elisabetta Cipriani in edition of 5. This project is a homage to Vigna’s Sospeso sculpture, which was commissioned for the “TRA. Edge of becoming” exhibition held at the Fortuny museum, in 2011, during the 54th Venice Biennale. Re-imagined as a wearable sculpture, it celebrates day and night, fullness and emptiness, and the daily passage of time.
For 40 years Giorgio Vigna has investigated materials such as glass, metals and paper, exploring and evoking several elements of nature: cosmic landscapes, stones, and shapes coming out from the Earth. What makes Giorgio Vigna’s work unique is his incessant experimentation with different medium, bringing back his artifice to a natural state.
In addition, Elisabetta Cipriani will present at Design Miami/ Basel 2015 jewelry by Atelier van Lieshout, Avish Khebrehzadeh, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Carla Accardi, Enrico Castellani, Erwin Wurm, Jannis Kounellis, Kendell Geers, Rebecca Horn, Tatsuo Miyajima, and the new project by Pedro Cabrita Reis.
