Erdmann Contemporary was founded by Heidi Erdmann in 2001. With a special focus on contemporary photography, this gallery set out to identify and develop careers of visionary and historically significant artists, as well as those working across disciplines – introducing new and challenging forms of creative expression.
Testament to our ethos is our featured artist, Lindeka Qampi, who started her career in 2006 as a street photographer taking photographs in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. These photographs have appeared in countless publications (most notable of which is the Aperture Magazine) and are also included in the in the permanent collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. In 2015, Qampi stepped in front of her own lens. Through a series of self-portraits entitled Inside My Heart, she spotlights one of the most important issues in South Africa: being a victim of rape.
