Erica Fiorentini Arte Contemporanea is pleased to present the solo exhibition by the Roman artist Francesca Montinaro. With Veil of Freedom - Ritratto continuo mod. 3.375.020.000 Francesca Montinaro continues her project exhibited last year at GNAM – National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.
For this exhibition the artist proposes a new series of video portraits and photographs. Montinaro continues her reflection upon feminine identity, investigating in this case the situation of women who wear a veil by choice or by command: brides, nuns and Islamic women.
Veil of Freedom is, therefore, a collective video portrait with a strong visual impact and a direct narrative language.
In these “monumental” video portraits, women are frontally seated and express – each individually – their own identity and thoughts.
Francesca Montinaro (Roma, 1965) works and lives in Rome. She is a multimedia artist and a set designer. She creates scenographical installations and projects using different media: video, drawing, sculpture and interactive video installation, working on issues of manipulation and consensus that directly involve the viewer.
Montinaro worked for several years as a TV stage designer and innovated the concepts of scenography in Italy.
The immediate impact of the video image is the ideal medium to give expression to her works.
Francesca Montinaro was also professor of Video Installation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and at IED, Rome; since 2010 she teaches Multimedia Scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara (Italy).
