AWARD-WINNING ARTIST MARISSA ROBIN ABENDAÑO TO EXHIBIT AT ARTEXPO NEW YORK
“Sea,” “Garden,” and “Rainbow Forest” series on view in Booth S701 April 19–22 at Pier 94
New York, NY — April 19, 2018: Award-winning artist Marissa Robin Abendaño has been selected by a jury of international art experts to exhibit with Estella Gallery at Artexpo New York, the world’s largest fine art marketplace taking place April 19–22, 2018, at Pier 94. The artist will be showing selected large-scale abstract paintings from her “Sea,” “Garden” and “Rainbow Forest” series.
Known for her bold, ultra-contemporary style, Abendaño recently began exploring the expressive capabilities allowed by a wider stylistic and technical palette to a captivating effect. The “Garden” series displays the artist’s mastery of color in combination with the impasto technique. In her “Sea” series, Abendaño embeds dried baby roses in the acrylic paint to create pieces that oscillate between hectic and melancholic. The “Rainbow Forest” series conjures feelings of infinite expanse through indivisible fields of line and color.
“My youngest daughter was asking me about my childhood,” says Abendaño, who grew up in the Philippines surrounded by seas, gardens, and rainforests. “This is where a lot of the series I am doing now are coming from. I traveled back in time. With this sense of freedom, I capture the moment, using various materials from nature to man-made. There is an idea of recurrence, a sort of mantra in the gestures, where the fluidity encounters the inner substance of things.”
Observed are beautifully layered compositions the oscillate between chaos and order. Although the works on view will be different from one to the next, Abendaño’s lyrical sense and rhythmic brushstrokes serve to unite the series as a whole.
