Curated by Frankzilla, "Take Out" is dedicated to all the Foodies and Food Porn Connoisseurs of the world. Food is a universal language experienced by every human throughout time and space. It comes in different shapes, colors, variants, backgrounds, and origins. Every artist showcased in this group art show, like food, come from different backgrounds and flavors, but when combined, make something uniquely tasty. Inspired by the myriad of vibrant colors and unique palettes found in food, “Take Out” will make you hungry, warm, full, and inspired.
Frankie Toruno (aka Frankzilla), goes beyond just drawing and painting burgers; by giving them attitude, swagger, and a “no fucks given” mindset, Frankie brings them to life. Born and raised in East LA, Frankie grew up in neighborhoods overrun by gangs and gang-related graffiti. Although Frankie didn’t fully understand the significance of gangs and their use of graffiti during his formative years, the tags and characters on the walls will lead to greatly influence his work. In addition to his environment, the grimy humor and cartoons of the 90’s will mix to ultimately create his current style.
Growing up in foster care and struggling in high school, Frankie knew that he wanted to be an artist. During high school, Frankie discovered both Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and fell in love with graphic design and digital art. A lot of his current work is drawn digitally and then painted on canvas. With the intention of creating confusion as to whether the piece is a digital print or a painted canvas, Frankie focuses heavily on creating the cleanest lines and curves. Currently, Frankie is a full-time artist and working as an assistant for artist, Matt Gondek. Frankie is constantly working hard – striving to grow and become a “Master Chef” of his burgers while constantly juggling multiple other projects.
Please join Frankie and his friends at Ewkuks for the Opening Reception of TAKE OUT: a group show by Frankzilla for New Works, Collab Apparel, and Refreshments.
