Opening Reception

Fri, Jul 20, 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00pm UTC
Please join us at the opening reception for Betsy Enzensberger, on Friday, July 20th, 2018 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Betsy Enzensberger has become quite well-known for her larger-than-life resin sculptures of dripping, frozen treats and other sweet-toothed delights. Her Melting series relies on the child-like lure of sweet, sticky ice cream, lollipops and popsicles to artificially instill intense desire. The colorful confections practically beg to be consumed. While it's assumed that a sweet-tooth is her inspiration, it's actually the material itself. Resin looks like candy. It appears delicious and sweet. The shiny exterior has a wet, melting quality. "Resin - I love it. It's beautiful, sexy, mysterious. It's also toxic, notoriously unpredictable and extremely labor-intensive to sculpt. There's just something about it I can not resist. I dream about it. I want t touch it. I want to eat it." -Betsy Enzensberger, artist
