With “Livid,” we are very pleased to present the second solo exhibition by Leipzig artist Benedikt Leonhardt (born in 1984) at Galerie FeldbuschWiesnerRudolph. After “Lumen,” his first solo show at FeldbuschWiesner (2014/15), and after having completed his Master’s degree with Professor Astrid Klein at the HGB (Academy of Fine Arts) in Leipzig (2016), Leonhardt now presents a new series of mature works in Berlin, ranging from large to small format canvases.
Leonhardt’s non-representational paintings captivate viewers not only by its multiple layers of glazed color like cyan, magenta and violet but also by an enthralling fluorescent orange-red or a Bordeaux red blocking and swallowing up all the light. From its flickering depths, figurative media images loom as the paintings' sublayered triggers and testify to the successive process of applying and, most importantly, un-applying the paint “… until the picture emerges that had etched itself into my memory: (…)" (B.L.).
Benedikt Leonhardt studied at the HGB (Academy of Fine Arts) Leipzig (2007-2014) and completed his M.A. at Prof.Astrid Klein (2016). Leonhardt received a scholarship by the Cusanuswerk (2009-2016) and a residency by the Erasmus Programme at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts in Norway (2012). His work has been shown in solo shows at FeldbuschWiesner in Berlin (2014), Salon Schmitz in Cologne (2016) and at the Gallery of the HGB (Academy of Fine Arts) Leipzig (2016) as well as in several group shows like "Leipzig paints -..." at Wiensowski&Harbord, Berlin, "Continous Abstraction" at Kunstverein Tiergarten, Berlin (2015), "Copy & Repeat“ at the Kunsthalle der Sparkasse Leipzig (2013) and "Landscapes in Transformation" at Centre d'Art Passerelle in Brest (2013).
