Finnish Art Agency has curated a site-specific art exhibition for the first Superwood Festival, held at Vuosaari in Helsinki. The autumnal festival offers two days of contemporary music, spoken word, visual arts, and vegetarian cuisine located in the unique 1960’s interior of the Hotel Rantapuisto.
“Finnish Art Agency is taking contemporary art and projects to places they’re not usually seen. Superwood Festival is a bold new concept. It has been interesting to create a thematic entity alongside the festival program inspired by the ambiance of the settings and the autumnal season.

The collaboration between Ivana Helsinki and Finnish Art Agency at Superwood started with Paola Suhonen’s Love On the Road Kunsthalle exhibition.
“Finnish Art Agency has a dynamic, pioneer-like touch on presenting art. Their networks and their knowledge of the Finnish art field are comprehensive. We wanted the best art collaborator to curate the Superwood art gallery and naturally we chose Finnish Art Agency”, says Pirjo Suhonen from Ivana Helsinki.
Superwood art exhibition presents works by photographer Anni Leppälä (b. 1981), artist Teemu Korpela (b. 1980) and painter Maria Laine (b. 1983). The mysterious photographs of Leppälä together with Korpela’s three-dimensional drawings and Laine’s sensual paintings create an ethereal and melancholic ensemble. The contrast of the different means of expression builds an exciting tension between the works. The exhibition also includes musician Ville Malja’s (b. 1981) death-themed sculptures, bold paintings by the awarded graphic designer Taru Happonen (b. 1989) and a somber minimalistic series of photographs by the photographic journalist and visual artist Evelin Kask, known from the ”11-kuvakollektiivi”. The youngest of the group, Säde Rinne (b. 1997) presents her pornographic embroidery that drew attention at the Amos Anderson Museum’s Generation 2017 exhibition earlier this year.
