Twenty years ago Rik Gadella called us with the idea to start a fair dedicated to photography in all its forms. We were immediately enthusiastic about the idea and participated in Paris Photo's first edition in 1997 with works by Desiree Dolron, Erwin Olaf and Micha Klein. The fair was an instant success and has been a role model for many fairs. It has also played an important role in today's high recognition of Dutch photography by the international art world. Our yearly participation at the fair has brought big international acclaim for the artists we exibited, amongst them Ruud van Empel whom we first showed at the venue Carrousel du Louvre.
This year at the 20th edition of Paris Photo, Flatland will bring works by Erwin Olaf and Paolo Ventura, but also new and young work by Katharine Cooper and Gioia de Bruijn. The introduction of new artists has always been a challenge that we dared to take every year since Paris Photo started.
Paris Photo has a very strong position in the international fore of art fairs. The wide scope of 19th century vintage prints, modern and contemporary photography, including photography in its post -photographic altered state, is a constant attraction for both professionals as well as lovers of art and photography.
Flatland is happy to have been contributing to this success the past twenty years and is excited to be part of Paris Photo's anniversary.
