Dana took cues from the power and purity of form in ancient Egyptian sculpture, simplifying the shapes and surfaces of his sculptures which define his later work. Although ancient Egyptian sculpture is his primary reference, Dana has also cited the distinctive clean-lined and minimalist figurative sculpture of Cycladic idols as a source of inspiration.
