Saâdane Afif inaugurated this performance concept in 2011, on the occasion of the exhibition Meeting Point 6 at the Beirut Art Center. The work is based on a procedure that is implemented in two separate locations. It establishes a connection between a space dedicated to art where some of the work is exhibited (song lyrics, posters, the performance place and time) and, at a distance, a space where the work is performed through a public declamation. The performance is an intentionally spontaneous event that aims to transform the reality of the city in which it takes place.
It is at the edge of the lagoon that this text will be activated at sunset—an ever- changing time by definition. From atop a plinth, his back to passers-by, an orator will declaim songs written by Lili Reynaud Dewar, for the benefit of fish, vaporettos and the lagoon, in a romantic vision reminiscent of the atmosphere of Caspar David Friedrich’s paintings.
