On the 17th of October, Fondazione Volume! opens the first evening in its new series One Night Stand, a performance program involving internationally-renowned performers. The event, whose name refers both to consummate love that spans only one night and to the duration of the artists’ actions, opens with performances by Claudie Gagnon (Quebec) and Johan Lorbeer (Berlin). Johan Lorbeer’s performance, Tarazan / Standing Leg creates a disorientating and unexpected relationship between space and human, as the artist defies gravity, standing still in unnatural positions. Lorbeer transfers the body and space into a surreal context, transforming himself into sculpture. The artist challenges the modes of perception that a viewer relies on most: sight and observation. With his Still Life Performances, Lorbeer surpasses the norm of performance; his work borders on the category of “human sculpture,” as he negates the surreal action with the longevity of the performance.
