Maider Lopez compels viewers to not only observe her work, but to experience its questions and complexities. She invites visitors to experiment and discover new realities, and thus to perceive the space and themselves in a new manner.
The work of Maider Lopez breaks with the idea considering the work of art to be a contemplation object. She doesn’t call the viewer to simply observe her work, but to experiment it through living its complexities and its questions. She lets the spectator to see for the very first time and to discover new and fresh realities, which allow him to perceive the space in a new way to feel himself as a part of it. For Fondazione Volume!, Maider Lopez conceives a peculiar intervention, which rearranges the space according to chromatic combinations involving the architecture of the gallery as a physical and mental space. The artist points out the space’s structure and at the same time she rewrites its coordinates deconstructing the usual perception of it through translating and building new mobile planes. Coloured and tiles with variable sizes, will cover the gallery’s walls and they will remodel the space according to plays of combinations. The ceramic technique recalls the Spanish, the Italian and the Portuguese tradition and the Islamic Mudejar in the Christian Art. The WALLS, to which the exhibition owes its name, can be moved at the public liking. Theirs arrangements cause multiple combinations and allow the spectators to variously meet each others. These walls spread all along the gallery’s space, changing its form and creating a labyrinth with various directions. We are playing with the space, with the perception of it and with our own body.
