Groening's quirky still lifes often include unlikely but not impossible juxtapositions. Culled from her collection of jewel-toned glass objects and augmented by flea market finds and borrowed treasures, these beautiful still lifes create a spectrum of color.
Canadian artist Torrie Groening will have her first US exhibition of her newest work at Foto Relevance, a 2018 FotoFest Participating Space. Anchored in her use of still life imagery, "The Color Seekers, The Color Collector's Way" is a study of jewel-toned glass objects. Using her skills as a Master Printer, Groening's layered compositions employ studio props, sketches, and accumulated materials with concise attention to detail. Each work begins with a large format digital photograph and develops with the addition of prints, sketches, and paintings. Selected works from her earlier projects that build to the current exhibition will also be available. The project is a unique visual experience through which the viewer can enter and wander.
