IZOLYATSIA is a cultural platform founded in 2010 in Donetsk, Ukraine, and relocated to Kyiv in June 2014 after the military occupation of its premises. The institution’s mission is to inspire positive change in Ukraine by using culture as an instrument. IZOLYATSIA has three intertwined directions of activity: art, education, and projects geared at activating Ukraine’s creative sector.
Since 2010, IZOLYATSIA has held art residencies in Ukraine, hosting individual artists, initiating multidisciplinary research and curatorial residencies as well as facilitated Ukrainian art professionals’ residencies at the partnering institutions abroad, among which Villa Arson (Nice), Delfina Foundation (London), AV Festival (Newcastle upon Tyne), and others.
At Art Monte-Carlo 2017, IZOLYATSIA presents the Ukrainian artist Zhanna Kadyrova, the winner of the 2013 PinchukArtCentre Prize. Her practice evolves mainly around the Soviet monumental heritage employing tiles and mosaics as both a medium and a conceptual reference. The presented series Diamonds (2006-2011), Second Hand (2014-2015), and Market (2017) were conceived and produced by the artist at various residencies in Brazil, Montenegro, Ukraine, and France. Conversely, a chosen display would leverage and subvert the notion of consumption encapsulated in the art fair format.
