Francis Boeske Projects and Klerkx International Art Management proudly announce their first participation at UNSEEN - Photography Fair Amsterdam with new work of two leading Iranian photographers:
Tahmineh Monzavi (1988) and Mohsen Rastani (1958)
Through their research they both offer a fresh look at today's documentary photography. Their stories about ordinary people and social injustice are told in a personal and essential way.
The work of both artists was shown for the first time in The Netherlands on the occasion of the exhibition "Opening Up: 9 Artists from Iran", at Francis Boeske Projects (Jan-Feb 2015).
Tahmineh Monzavi is a promising young artist whose work reveals taboos and stereotypes in Iran and Afghanistan focusing on the lives of young women and marginalized people like transsexuals, prostitutes, and drug addicts. At Unseen we will display her latest project dedicated to the lives of young women in Afghanistan.
We will show some black and white photographs of Mohsen Rastani's on-going project dedicated to the lives of Iranian families. Rastani photographs ordinary people in front of a white sheet, isolating them from their surroundings: Rastani: "We succeed better in looking into other people's soul and mind as long as we are not distracted by anything else".
