Created in 1959, the selected group of linocuts presented here illustrates Picasso’s new approach to depicting bullfighting and bulls. The after-war years are characterised by ‘la joie de vivre’. Picasso lived in Vallauris in the south of France on the Mediterranean, where he felt at ease and which he loved so much. The artist ventured into new artistic adventures, explored new processes such as linocut, and shared his life with Françoise Gilot, a young, energetic, independent woman, who herself was a painter and the mother of his children Claude and Paloma.
