Together with Archives Yves Klein, the Embassy of France in Argentina and Tenaris, Proa presents the first retrospective of Yves Klein in our country.
The exhibition features more than 70 works and over 100 documents, including the most emblematic productions of the French artist, one of the greatest exponents of 20th century contemporary art and creator of a new color in the history of art: the International Klein Blue (IKB). Of audacious and infinite trajectory, Klein is very recognized by the new generations, who rescue both his performance gestures as his remarkable writings and the audacity in his works.
The exhibition gathers its first monochromatic paintings of 1955; His famous paintings of saturated overseas blue; Fire paintings; The Cosmogonies of rain and wind; The series of Sculptures Sponges and works in gold - result of the work of several years combining pictorial practice, spirituality, the force of nature and the exploration of a path to the absolute.
Klein is also one of the precursors of the happening with the realization of his Anthropometries in public, the Jump to the Void, the lighting of the Obelisk of the Concorde square, among other projects that integrate the exhibition from documents, records, writings and an exhaustive Presentation of material from the Archives of the artist.
Through his works, Klein changed the perceptual focus from the material object to an "immaterial sensibility", challenging preexisting notions about art and injecting them with a new sense of spirituality through pure color: "With color I achieve a feeling Of full identification with space and I am completely liberated ... I seek, above all, to achieve in my creations that "transparency", that immeasurable "void" where the permanent and absolute spirit liberated from all dimensions "(Yves Klein)
The extent to which Yves Klein pushed his experimentation with ideas and materials is shocking to a time when conceptual practices were not so common. His works with living models try to register the cosmic energies of the body, spraying the contours of the models with paints. These Anthropometries reflect on time and physical presence on a material plane.
This first great retrospective of Yves Klein in Latin America shows us a provocative and innovative artist, who constantly blurred the boundaries between art and life, between painting and performance, between objects and ideas. Rethinking his own time from a spiritual and aesthetic perspective, he acted as a hinge with the coming generations, allowing the emergence of other movements such as conceptual art, minimalism and pop. His revolutionary aim was to radically rethink the world in both aesthetic and spiritual terms.
The Yves Klein show is accompanied by an intense cultural outreach program to be developed during the exhibition. It includes lectures and seminars and an educational program specially designed to understand the relevance of the French artist and to enjoy in family the most interesting aspects of the show. Along with the exhibit will be published an illustrated catalog that includes full-color images of Klein's major works and extensive documentation on his work intended for students and specialists.
In addition to this, the ProaTv and ProaRadio parallel educational programs and the Audioguía online to get closer in depth to the works from any mobile device. Proa offers, on the whole, the possibility to appreciate from different perspectives the work of one of the most innovative artists of the 20th century art scene.
