The present exhibition shows a work in which virtuosity is an example of universal painting, and in the works of each piece created by Ricardo Fernández the overflowing use of the imagination is appreciated - to interweave the modern and the old, reality and fiction, sleep and wakefulness, the conscious and the unconscious.
Although his work is circumscribed within the realist current, we find a symbolic burden that envelops the mystery of comforts with the naturalism of the time, and in the treatment of vibration and light accent allows him to make visible the invisible. This refers us to a world of appearances that disappears before an oneiric, mythological and ancestral universe.
This extravagance that is seen again in each of the parts by the multiple references by which the dream is transmitted to the incarnation. Despite the formal results visible to the viewer by the decorative rarity of the forms themselves is a personal hybridization that vindicates plastic postmodernism by resorting to themes in which the magic of pagan mythology rejects the anecdote and focuses on exquisite beauty. We see an orchestra of struggle between shadow and light, good and evil, that captures the penetrating gaze of his characters revealing the possible imaginary fantasy.
The monster that lurks to be seen in the gloom and betray its presence as an inhabitant of the fantasy, mythical and symbolic universe is renewed and convoluted. The monster populates the imagination of the oldest genealogies through the legends of the creation of our universe; images created for the romantic fascination of a spectator who finds himself in death, cruelty, loneliness, and pain, joy and melancholy - the harmony that remains as the perpetual rivalry in baroque and neo-classicist thought of the fantastic painting.
His subjects are treated with the rigor of the academy, the perfect balance between aesthetic beauty and the sentimental anecdote, so that they return the trade. Seen is a current pictorial heritage, in which the nostalgia of the idyllic world product of the imagination is observed, dreams, and above all, a past that is assumed as a strength to nominate painting as an art of craft and talent.
