Commited to a historical and critical view of art during its thirty-one year existence, Galeria Millan has always stimulated the dialogue between generations and artistic currents, and today represents a team of plural and consistent artists, ranging from well-known names to young artists who are beginning their careers.
Headed by André Millan and Socorro de Andrade Lima, the gallery follows the careers of the artists and offers absolute support to their creative process. In addition to developing a broad program of acquisitions with institutional and private collections, in Brazil and abroad, Galeria Millan stimulates exchanges with cultural institutions, museums and foundations, and organizes publications with renowned publishing houses. In November 2015, Galeria Millan opened its new space, Anexo Millan. Located on the same block and just 50 meters away from the original venue, the space offers a large variety of exhibition assembles, with wide rooms and a high ceiling, over 6m tall. Together, Galeria Millan and Anexo Millan gather approximately 500m2 of expository area.
The work developed by the artists represented have had a wide reach, participating in various biennials all over the world and in exhibitions at prestigious institutions, such as Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, Musée du Louvre, Palais de Tokyo, Maison Européenne de Photographie and Fondation Cartier (Paris); Solomon Guggenheim Museum and MoMA (New York); Walker Art Center (Minneapolis); Museum of Fine Arts (Houston); Los Angeles County Museum (Los Angeles); Museo Reina Sofia (Madrid); Centro Português de Fotografia and Museu da Fundação de Serralves (Porto); Stedilijk Museum (Amsterdam); FRAC PACA (Marseille); Moderna Musset (Stockholm); and Henry Moore Foundation (England).
