Afinidades de la Ruptura | Affinities of the Rupture
“Afinidades de la Ruptura” is a temporary exhibition gathering prints by great Mexican artists: José Clemente Orozco, Francisco Toledo and José Luis Cuevas; as well as José Clemente Orozco Farías’ artwork, muralist José C. Orozco’s grandson.
Galería Nudo is proud to present the temporary exhibition “Afinidades de la Ruptura”, which opened on August 9th 2019 at our gallery located on Recreo #10-B, Zona Centro, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.
A cocktail was held at the opening where dozens of attendees appreciated the artwork of great Mexican artists: José Clemente Orozco, Francisco Toledo and José Luis Cuevas; as well as José Clemente Orozco Farías’ artwork, muralist José C. Orozco’s grandson. This exhibition gathers prints by artists of different generations, nonetheless with striking similarities.
Fernando Gálvez de Aguinaga, curator of the exhibition, mentions:
“Cuevas and Toledo both reveal affinities with Orozco in their tendencies towards the monstrous and their freedom as draughtsmen. […] José Clemente Orozco Farías grew up watching these three artists. His grandfather had to have been a key influence for his art and his conception of images. But he also saw the new generation that both challenged and was challenged by muralism. The rupture was never complete because they took up the pictorial elements of the muralists.”
The exhibited artwork includes diverse printmaking techniques such as lithography, aquatint, xylography and monotype, among others.
