« Being moved by an image »
In his workshop, characters take heart and soul who are at the same time exotic in their physique, but close and contemporary by the expressiveness of the feelings that give them flesh. His silent faces subtly tell us of a search for the truth of human existence.
Gabriel SCHMITZ is a European artist. German origin, he studied art at the Fine Arts School of Edinburgh in Scotland and settled in Spain, where he founded his family. He is keen on cinema, literature, contemporary dance, opera, and has a true knowledge of what is being created in these areas, in Europe, the USA and even Japan. This process of constant curiosity about these subjects feeds his consciousness and unconsciousness. He creates with intensity an invisible link connecting the real beings that are the artist and the audience, and his human subject to whom he conveys deep emotions. He uses oil on canvas, in a very contemporary way, with a quick and lively touch, which gives life to the flesh of his characters and highlights their presence. The Arcturus Gallery exhibits his paintings and drawings since its inception in 1999, is pleased to present recent works that will certainly make you “moved by an image”.
