Ohst´s pictures of the sea not only make visible, but feel what the sea is; What it means to be at and in the sea.Like a few other artists, he understands how to paint the power of the water, the whirling, flowing, tearing, and sucking of the sea, so as to be torn away or driven out; Yes to drown. It creates a desire to get into the cool blue, make a wild ride on a green wave or simply dive, disappear ... into the sea.Wild fantasies are created when you look at these marine images. There is no rippling, the crushers are breaking over us. There is a hiss and a whip and “Azure Blue” is looked for in vain.“Prussian blue” dominates, indigo mixes with black and even the clear green of a striking wave is powerful and indomitable. The archaic magic of the sea is immanent to the images.
Differently the beach pictures:
They impress with precision and ease. They show the other side of the sea: “Azur Blue”, warm, inviting to swim, friendly and summertime fresh. The busy beach tells little stories and those who look for longer, stumble over ironic or quite bizarre details. A little girl carries a real dolphin under her arm, icebergs swim on the summer horizon, and a full-bodied man does not have anything better to eat than on the beach. A beautiful woman makes graceful gymnastics and at the "Dogs-Beach" a dog with the look at a woman has a lustful grin.
Sculpture: Tilmann Krumrey
I work in the quarry of mankind and have the heart of a poet.
Sculpture, unavoidably, involves the third dimension. Built space (architecture) and built bodies (sculpture) are complementary forms. Because of the great proportions of building and human beings, architecture mostly creates negative, hollow spaces in which we find ourselves: interior spaces, public squares and streets, urban structures. The positive volume of our human bodies and sculptures, on the other hand, displaces space. In the interspaces thus created an unconscious as well as spontaneous dialogue of space and body, space and sculpture unfolds.
That is why I began to develop my own sculptures or architectural "stages" for my sculptures. And as a "stage", I understand both my own spaces, as well as public places or other sites marked by me. In these "room installations" all the senses of the visitor are addressed by intentionally characterizing acoustics, light, temperature, smell, sense of touch and body sensibility as a total work of art. These spaces change consciousness and strike bridges between the inner dream world and the physical existence.
In the dream of the myth lives the spiritual body of the whole society, it is the "public dream". Art, formerly in the service of God, shaman or priest, is today secularized. However, it is still connected with the "collective unconscious" of society. Therefore, art is a fundamental way to transform society.
Both artists will be personally present during the exhibition opening.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
