Galerie D’Este is proud to present Umwelt a solo exhibition by artist Sebastien Lafleur. In this body of work, the artist reflects on the forces and structures that modulate nature. His multidisciplinary practice fuses painting, drawing, sculpture and video. Drawing inspiration from evolutionary phenomena such as mutation and hybridization, Lafleur manipulates different media in order to create works inspired by natural and urban environments. By diversifying his techniques, he seeks to create a dialogue between figure, material and space, questioning the realities of an already existing landscape in perpetual transformation. Through an approach founded on movement and organic metamorphoses, his research explores the intersections between biomimetics, digital information and biology.
Sébastien Lafleur lives and works in Montreal. Since earning his Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from The Université du Québec à Montréal, he has presented numerous exhibitions in Quebec and Ontario, including a recent solo exhibition at Maison de la culture Plateau-Mont-Royal. In 2015 he also participated in a benefit auction at Écomusée du fier monde as well as Parle-moi d’amour, an exhibition and auction organised by Les Impatients. His work can be found in many collections, notably those of the City of Ottawa and the City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
