Out of the frame brings together works by Andrés Ramirez and David de Tscharner. The two artists engaged in dialogue so as to link their work together in the making of a common project for Art Brussels 2017.
Andrés Ramirez’s work roots itself in a conceptual basis consisting in the updating of various fundamental principles of traditional painting, via the symbolic extension contemporary techniques – especially industrial production techniques – allow. One of these principles consists in the frame and its definition. Whereas in the traditional codes of pictorial representation the frame defines the boundaries, in Andrés Ramirez’s artistic approach and more specifically in this project, the frame becomes sculpture and spatial device.
David de Tscharner’s series of works (Les Ambassadeurs, 2016) harnesses the formal and poetic potential of images collected on the mobile app Instagram, transposed in volume in the form of mobiles. Sometimes organic, sometimes anthropomorphic, the suspended works induce the spectator’s movement so as to be grasped, like 360° images.
The global disposal for this installation appears as combined structures in which images would be on the run, causing a strange encounter between organic and technological dimensions.
