For the third edition of Young Collectors Day, Galerie Julian Sander (formerly FEROZ Galerie) is very pleased to show for the first time in Germany the series Ciudades del Este by Argentinian photographer Alfredo Srur. One of the new talents of Latin American photography, Srur studied film production at the University of California and has been developing documentary projects in Colombia, Honduras, Ecuador, Argentina and Peru for the last 15 years. Among his recent projects are the series Heridas and Zona Sur, which have been subject of numerous exhibitions in his hometown Buenos Aires. Alfredo Srur’s work is exclusively represented by Galerie Julian Sander since 2014.
Ciudades del Este is a series that explores the complexities of the Triple Frontera, the tri-border area along the junction of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. “Portrait and landscape are the key elements of my work. I believe our human experience can be fully represented in landscapes and portraits”, says Srur. “For Ciudades del Este I worked with three cameras and color was my main focus. It was a very intense experience… My wife’s uncle is a taxi driver in Ciudad del Este and I thought the best way to get to know the area, the suburbs and the different groups of people living there was to drive for a month with him, in his cab, in order to experience all aspects of the city life from early morning until late evening”. The result of this project is a group of 26 photographs that capture the mundane aspects of life from a unique perspective, prompting viewers to reconsider everyday scenes and offering insights into the lives of his subjects – from emotional state to socioeconomic status.
For the occasion of YCD #3, we cordially invite you to a preview of Ciudades del Este at our gallery on June 11th, 2015 from 2 to 8 pm. While the name of our gallery has changed, the gallery address has remained the same: Prinz-Albert-Str. 12 in Bonn.
We are looking forward to your visit!
