In preparation for the Munich exhibition cooperative VARIOUS OTHERS, we invited the renowned photo gallery KICKEN BERLIN to participate in a joint thematic exhibition in our two galleries. Kicken agreed spontaneously and have offered us a magnificent selection of early and contemporary photographs relating to the suggested theme “Il Mondo Botanico”. They correspond, individually harmonizing, to works belonging to the gallery and drawings on loan from our private collection. In this way it is possible to present a broad spectrum at a very high standard, which has surely seldom been shown in a comparable constellation. The photo section encompasses single prints and series of works incl. by Heinrich Kühn, Josef Sudek, Albert Renger-Patzsch, László Moholo-Nagy, Karl Blossfeldt, Picasso/Villers, Peter Keetman and Ernst Fuhrmann. Two portfolios of graphic art by Cy Twombly come from our own gallery, as well as images by Alex Katz, Donald Baechler and Olaf Metzel. The supplementary loans comprise two cut silhouettes by Philipp Otto Runge, drawings, watercolour works or collages by Paul Cézanne, Paul Klee, Alberto Giacometti, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Joseph Beuys, Andy Warhol and James Brown.
We are grateful to Annette Kicken and Ina Schmidt-Runke for their engagement and the opportunity to realise such an unusual visual dialogue with this exhibition.
I would like to dedicate the exhibition to my wife Verena.
