Ernest Pignon-Ernest, Pasolini Si je reviens Piazza Mattei, 2015. Digital print 50 copies 60 x 80 cm.
“At the beginning of the 1960s and some decades ahead of the emergence of what is now known as “street art", Ernest Pignon-Ernest set out on a truly unique adventure, one which he continues today, combining technical mastery, existential integrity and the ability to inhabit the world poetically. Unique for its ethical and aesthetic themes, each stage of his career, regardless of the subjects covered, has allowed him to demonstrate a rare capacity for reconciling uncomprising and undenied political engagement with artistic expression of the highest standards. To such an extent that some of his images, notably les Fusillés de la Commune and his Rimbaud, of which hundreds of thousands of copies have been made, have become veritable icons of modern times.”

This summer, the MAMAC in Nice organised a major retrospective, showcasing nearly 50 years of Ernest Pignon-Ernest’s work. In echo of this event, we have gathered a series of recent digital prints from the artist. These include Les Extases, Pasolini, si je reviens, Le parcours Audin...All the prints were made at the Studio Franck Bordas in Paris and are published by Lelong Editions.
