Keith Sonnier is a post-minimalist American artist. Beginning his career in downtown New York in the 1960s, along with other artists graduating from Rutgers University, Sonnier redefined sculpture using materials and techniques previously relegated to the world of hardware. If he shares with Carl Andre, Dan Flavin or Sol LeWitt the desire for anti-illusionist sculpture, his works reveal themselves from the outset to be more narrative and literary than those of the minimalists.
